JOSÉ LUIS ARBULÚ

Plastic Artist born in Callao-Peru, He studied at the National Superior and Autonomous School of Fine Arts of Peru, graduating with the Grand Prize of the Banking and Commerce Club, Promotion 83. In this initial stage of his career his painting revolves around topics related to the individual in a context of social uncertainty.


In 1985 he obtained the British Council Scholarship and traveled to London-United Kingdom, where he studied advanced painting at the Saint Martin’s School of Art in London, developing works within a theme of confrontation, with canine beings as characters.


A very important step as an artist was taken when he traveled to China (1986-1990), obtaining a scholarship from the State Education Commission of China, he studied Traditional Chinese Painting, specializing in landscape (shanshui) at the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts of China (CAFA), during this stage he holds individual and two-personal exhibitions, he is a recipient of the Grand Prize Beijing International Ink and Wash Painting Exhibition 88 and Second Prize International Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Competition, Peonía Cup 89, Shandong-China ; obtaining the recognition of specialized critics. José Luis Arbulú has represented Peru in various international artistic events, such as the Beijing-China Biennial 2015 and 2022, the London Biennial 2015, and the Dafen-China International Oil Painting Biennial 2022.


Throughout his career he has held 14 solo exhibitions and multiple group exhibitions in Peru, the People’s Republic of China, the United States, Uruguay, England, Paraguay, France, Italy, Ecuador, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Iran, among others.


His work is part of several art collections, such as the Banco de Crédito del Perú Art Collection, the Beijing-China Biennial collection and the Dafen Art Museum-China.
